The Right Words

Photo by Tobias Keller on Unsplash

The words bubble up,

Each offering themselves,

clamoring to the front of my mind

But as I choose one,

It’s a loose fitting t-shirt, shapeless

A potato sack.

The other is too tight,

clingy, needy

somehow lacking.

The next is a pair of jeans

well worn,

reliable

but not quite right.

Finally I find the perfect one

and display it proudly

Only to realise

There’s a giant stain on the crotch.
